Do This Today: Humor Abuse

9184858.91

I know this is a little pricy compared to my normal “Do This Today” activities, but I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard Lorenzo Pisoni talking about his one-man show at the Mark Taper Forum and it sounds fascinating. He comes from a family of clowns performing at San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus and his family stories sound so interesting. They are hoping to turn his history into a life documentary, so check out his kickstarter campaign for details.

Event: Humor Abuse (event)
Location: The Mark Taper Forum, 135 N. Grand Ave, Downtown Los Angeles
Time: Almost every day until November 3, 2013
Cost: $40-60 (tickets)

Do This Today: Sock Puppets Sitcom Theater (The Golden Girls!)

I’m cheating a little, because the “Do This Today” event isn’t happening for a few days but I wanted to give you plenty of time to get tickets. So your “Do This Today” assignment is to watch the video above (check out more on their Youtube Channel) and to buy tickets for this upcoming show. This Saturday at the Echo, the Sock Puppet Sitcom Theater is performing an episode of Golden Girls from 1985, where “Blanche opens up her doors to renters widow Rose and divorcee Dorothy who answer an ad on the bulletin board in a local grocery store”. This sounds awesome. Why not get a NY style slice of pizza at Two Boots next door and then check out the show.

Event: Sock Puppets @ The Echo- The Golden Girls (1985)
Location: The Echo, 1822 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
Time: Oct 13 (Saturday), 7pm doors, 8pm show
Cost: $10 (get tickets here)

That sounds unique, fun and oh yes, FREE! It’s free and has donation only booze and soda. They do this monthly, so if you miss it check it out next month. This months guests are Brooks Wheelan, Cornell Reid, Scott Moran, Jade Catta-Preta, Chris Fairbanks, and DC Pierson.

Location: The Little Modern Theatre, 6476 Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90038

Do This Today: Comedy of Errors (theater!)

Today’s “Do This Today” is going to make you feel like a smarty. The Independent Shakespeare Company does free shows Thursday-Sunday during summer, in Griffith Park. Tonights performance is of Comedy of Errors and starts at 7pm. Pack a picnic, a blanket, a sweater for after sundown, and some bug spray (trust me on this one). Head over to the Old Zoo (you can even play in the old animals dens!) and claim your spot in front of their stage. I’ve loved going to this free event last summer and highly recommend it.

Event: The Shakespeare Company’s presentation of Comedy of Errors
Location: The Griffith Park’s Old Zoo (see map below)
Time: 7pm
Cost: FREE (donations accepted)
FIY: Bug spray and a jacket are a must!
