Comedy Wednesday, Oct 17

It’s Comedy Wednesday here at Life Absorbed, and last night my comedy plans were foiled. This unfortunately leaves me with not much to report on this week. When I was wallowing in my comedy failures late last night, I saw that Sarah Silverman posted this picture (clearly taken in UCB’s green room), from Comedy Bang Bang last night.

I’ll make it all up to you, I swear. Next week I have at least two shows I’m seeing and check back later today for some goodies.

Do This Today: Art F*ck (Free Comedy)

Tonight at 9pm, there is an awesome (FREE) comedy line-up performing at the Downtown Independent. They’ll have Maria Bamford, Baron Vaughn, Josh Fadem, Ryan Singer, Hampton Yount, Barbara Gray, and Eric Lampart with host Matt Ingebretson.

Event: Art Fuck (facebook event)
Location: The Downtown Independent, 251 S. Main St, Los Angeles, CA
Time: 9pm
Cost: FREE!

Do This Today: How To Live With Chelsea Peretti (comedy!)

It’s technically sold out already, but if you put your name on the waiting list at the door, UCB always finds a way to squeeze everyone in. Today’s event is How To Live With Chelsea Peretti at the UCB theater on Franklin. Tickets are $5, and for that you get to hear the hilarious Chelsea and her special guests Joe Mande, John Mulaney, and Kumail Nanjiani. These are all big names in comedy, so you better get your name on that waiting list! Get there early, put your name on the list at the office and then wait to be let in (don’t wait in the regular line).

Event: How To Live With Chelsea Peretti (event website)
Location: The Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre, 5919 Franklin Ave, Los Angeles CA 90028
Time: 9:30p
Cost: $5

Do This Today: Sad People Talking (comedy!)

I’m back after a short vacation of having my parents in town. We packed the past few days, but now I’m back to the usual. With my parents here, I had to skip UCB last night (so no usual Comedy Wednesday post) but your Do-This-Today is comedy themed! Tonight Barbara Gray is hosting Dave Child, Duncan Trussell, Heidi Hayward, Johnny Pemberton, and Ryan O’Flanagan.

Event: Sad People Talking (event website)
Location: Nola’s, 734 East 3rd St, Los Angeles CA 90013
Time: 9:30p
Cost: FREE (just mention or bring a flyer, or it’s $5)
FYI: They have a Late Night Happy Hour!

Comedy Wednesday

Since it is Comedy Wednesday, I feel like I need to share this with you today. As you know, I love (cheap) indie comedy in LA and I write about the shows I go to all the time. has decided to try to open another comedy venue in LA which would be like a Largo/UCB/Improv haven. While I think there are several places like this in LA already (most are bars and not really theaters), I would love a legit intimate (affordable) comedy theater venue! Nakedcomedy needs your help to make this come to fruition. Click THIS link and reblog/tell your friends.

Cheap Theater Tickets

My sister wrote a great article for Head Shot Magazine about inexpensive ways to see theater in LA. Check out the article HERE. Erica sees everything that comes to LA, so take her advice. She’s also a (self admitted) frugal person and knows about every deal out there when it comes to live entertainment. Do your wallet a favor, read her article and spend the weekend at the theater!

Addition to the Weekend Guide

Some Saturday events have come to my attention that you should all know about:

The Independent Shakespeare Co. is doing a performance of Two Men From Verona at 5pm and 8pm. It says tickets are $20, but if you mention the word crabs when buying them, you can get $10 tickets! Cocktails and men dressed as women, go and enjoy! Get tickets HERE.

If Shakespeare isn’t your thing, the Sunset Beer Company has their grand opening tonight from 6-10p. Tunes will be spun by Mr.Cocoon. Here’s the INFO.

Well, now I’ve given you 2 more cheap options that will get you off your butt! No excuses, get out there!
