This weekend has SOOO much going on, I can’t do all the events justice so instead I’m going to do an abbreviated Weekend Guide. Here goes…
Tonight visit theIam8bit Art Gallery for the opening of their newest show “It’s the ShizNICK!” celebrating the good ol’ days of Nickelodeon tv shows and cartoons. From 7-11p tonight they are having their opening celebration with live tunes by DJ Lance, a “Photo Playset”, and SLIME! Get ready to get nostalgic!
The Echo Park Art Walk is happening on Saturday in Echo Park (duh) from 12p-6pm! I do a lot of my secret stair walks around here and it’s a fun neighborhood to explore. Many shops are participating and this is a fun people-watching neighborhood. I went to this two years ago and saw Danny Devito and his wife enjoying a local band performing on the street. I can’t recommend this event enough and it celebrate local small businesses.
Go from the Echo Park Art Walk to the Frogtown Art Walk! Come check out this cool neighborhood along the LA River from 4 to 7pm on Saturday.
Are you less into books and more into cycling? Or running, or just general moseying along the streets of LA? The next CicLAvia is happening this Sunday from 10a-3p. Check out the map HERE for details about road closures. It’s Marina Del Ray to downtown. Get out your sneakers!
There’s just SO much happening this weekend, it’s hard to choose! Either way, get out there and have a fabulous weekend. It’s FRIDAY! Enjoy!
If you grew up in the 90’s, then you must know the Nickelodeon show, Pete and Pete. It was awesome. Like truly, the best. To sum up the Everything Is Festival that Cinefamily has been throwing, they are having a Pete and Pete Reunion as their closing night celebration. Don’t miss this event. I am (hopefully) climbing back down Mt. Whitney as you’re reading this, so there is no way I can attend- so you must go in my place!
Event: The Adventures of Pete + Pete Reunion (website with videos)
Location: Orpheum Theater, 842 S. Broadway, Los Angeles (downtown)
Time: 8p doors, 9p show
Cost: $25 – $75 (get tickets HERE)
FYI: Take the red line of the metro!
My friend Brian attended the Comikaze Expo (I wrote about it HERE) yesterday, and I have to post an update about it. They had an All That reunion at the Expo! You heard me right. All of you children from the 90’s know what Im talkin’ about. All That was Nickelodeon’s kid version of Saturday Night Live. The child comedians would do comedic sketches and have bands/rap groups perform kid-friendly versions of their songs to a live audience. It’s one of Nickelodeon’s greatest shows (in my opinion). Kenan Thompson even went on to become a cast member of SNL (as an adult). Here is Brian’s photo from the event:
You can see Kel Mitchell in the photo as well as Lori Beth Denberg (in the green). 90’s nostalgia is setting in! Check out this video from the event:
