Do This Today: “Only God Forgives” Soundtrack Signing at Origami Vinyl

I’m sorry the Do This Today is so delayed! I’ve got some big projects going on over here at Life Absorbed but I don’t mean to leave you hanging. I even have a comedy show to tell you all about. But in the meantime, hit up Origami Vinyl tonight from 7-8pm. Director and writer Nicolas Winding Refn and composer Cliff Martinez will be stopping by to sign the movie “Only God Forgives” soundtrack (Ryan Gosling’s new movie). They both worked on this film as well as Ryan Gosling’s “Drive”. Come say hi!

Comedy Wednesday: Zach Braff

It’s Comedy Wednesday! Did you see and enjoy Garden State (a dark comedy)? It’s an awesome film written and directed and starring by Zach Braff. He’s got another screenplay that he would love to see turned into a film but he’s having trouble getting the funding he needs while still retaining control of the film. Garden State is proof that Zach can make a great film and should be able to have control over his own words. If you are a fan, donate to the cause and visit his kickstarter page for the film Wish I Was Here. Check out the video above to hear the plea from Zach Braff and his comedy friends stop by.

L.A. Movie Monday: Yes, Man

I’ve decided to add a new regular segment to the blog. Drum roll please…
L.A. Movie Monday! The blog Design Sponge does an amazing segment called Living In every Tuesday, where they take famous movies and make design boards inspired by the films. I’ve decided to adapt Design Sponge’s idea and examine films set in Los Angeles. I’ll make design boards as well as explore the real locations in LA, where these films were shot. Get ready to be inspired by these films and Los Angeles!

I’m starting off L.A. Movie Monday with the underrated film, Yes Man. This film is shot all over Los Angeles and visits a few of my favorite places. A couple years ago when I began my own awakening I found this movie very inspiring. It made me very aware of how much I say no in life, and made me start saying yes.

Carl (Jim Carrey)’s apartment has a mid-century flare, which is a lot of fun. The pieces are all so clean (not ornamental), and muted with subtle splashes of color in the accessories. Say YES to Mid-Century Modern! This awesome looking apartment (exterior) was shot at the Park Plaza apartments on Rowena Ave, in Los Feliz.

Many of the scenes take place inside Bigfoot Lodge East, in Atwater Village. This bar is so much fun and it’s forest/cabin themed. They do bingo on Sunday, and trivia night is every Wednesday. This is a common shooting location for films in LA, since the interior is so unique. It was so popular they opened a west-side location. Check it out and try their toasted marshmallow drink, yum.

Paint Chips: Benjamin Moore Classic Brown (2109-10), Burnt Caramel (2167-10), Citrus Blast (2018-30).
