Weekend Guide Feb 17 + 18 + 19

Again, I’m off to a late Weekend Guide post. I’m starting to think that until I’m back on funemployment, the Weekend Guide is going to be mostly about Saturday and Sunday nights. Lets face it, everyone’s so tired after a crazy work week, who has the energy to go bananas on a Friday? I save banana-time for my Saturdays! So here it is, well into the evening on a Friday night and I’ve already got my walk-on and I’m sipping an Old Rasputin. We are about to embark on a three-day weekend and I’m stoked. Are you ready for your weekend? Let’s get right into it!

FRIDAY February 17th:

Since it’s getting late, I’ll include the only activity that hasn’t already started. Children of the Corn III is playing at the Cinefamily Silent Movie Theater at 12am (later tonight). Director James D.R. Hickox , Cinematographer Gerry Lively, writer Dode Levenson, Daniel Cerny, and Jim Metzler will be there for the start of the film. Learn more about the event on their official website HERE.

SATURDAY February 18th:

I don’t have anything fabulous or even note worthy to talk about for midday tomorrow, but if the weather is great you better be outside on a walk or on a hike. I garunte that’s what I’ll be doing. Secret Stair book? Don’t mind if I do! But at night it’s another story…

Start your night by seeing Anna David’s “True Tales of Lust and Love from Writers and Comedians 2“. Get tickets online HERE for $11.58. This show features 10 minutes from each of the following: Anna David, Amy Dresner, Vanessa Marshall, Christie Nittrouer, Melinda Hill, and Claire Titelman. Now I’ve never seen the show nor do I know any of these women, but I like comedy and cheap entertainment and this show could be awesome. Give it a shot.

After an hour of laughs, hit up the Ansel Adams show opening reception at the Drkrm Gallery. These photos are from the archives of the LA Library. It’ll be a very LA event.

As of this afternoon, Iron Comic has sold out which is a bummer. Thankfully it’s happening at 10pm at UCB and if you get there early you can add your name to the standby list, then wait with your fingers crossed for a seat. Iron Comic is a live gameshow where 5 comedians rush to write a routine on the spot based on topics selected by the audience. Think Iron Chef, just more comedy and less meat. This weeks guests are Greg Behrendt, Morgan Murphy, Chelsea Peretti, Louis Katz, and Alex Koll.

SUNDAY February 19th:

All weekend is the 23rd Annual Mardi Gras celebration at the LA Farmers Market. There will even be a Mutti Gras pet costume contest! HERE is a link to the full schedule of events happening all weekend. There will be New Orleans and Zydeco music, bead throwing, arts and crafts and authentic Cajun food.

At 2pm on Sunday, Meltdown Comics is hosting “Rascal Raccoon in Reading, Writing, and Revenge”. Selected readings from the graphic novel will be read by Seth Green, Zeb Wells, Dan Milano, and Heidi Gardner.
