It’s Labor Day Weekend! Are you sticking around LA this weekend, or leaving on an adventure? My parents are coming to town so we will be taking a trip outside Los Angeles. In fact it’ll be quiet here for a couple of days, because I wont be free until Tusday night. I also owe you a mount Whitney post… it’s coming, I swear! Alright, let’s get into it!
FRIDAY August 31:
What: Ladies Night Out (event website)
Where: Starts at the intersection of Hollywood Way and Magnolia, in Burbank
Cost: Free! Come walk around and explore the shops!
FYI: This is a fun way to get to know the area, enjoy some food truck food ($) and why not hit up Tony’s Darts Away after?
What: Sweet Tooth (more info)
Where: The Backside in Echo Park
FYI: They are going to have beer floats, ice cream (free!), cheesecake, cookies, and all sorts of goodies. Also the neighborhood has plenty to do on a Friday night, so stay and explore!
What: Gallery 1988 (Venice): Step Brothers (event website)
Where: Gallery 1988, 214 Pier Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90405
SATURDAY August 25:
What: FYF Fest (event website)
Where: LA Historic Park,
Cost: $$$ expensive, but cheaper than Cochella (get tickets here)
FYI: This is a music event, but it also has a comedy tent. In fact, David Cross (who hardly performs in LA) will be there!! Out of the zillion comedians I write about and see live, he’s the only one I have not seen. Be luckier than I, and go check him out! This event runs Saturday and Sunday.
What: The Gronhilm Method (play) (event website)
Where: The Falcon Theater in Toluca Lake
When: 4pm + 7pm
Cost: $40-42 (but I bet if you look online you can find some good deals)
FYI: My sister saw this play a few weeks ago and LOVED it. She (who is a theater guru- and flies to NYC for the weekend just to see plays) says it should be on Broadway. Check it out before it does go to Broadway! _________________________________________________________________________
SUNDAY August 19:
What: Comedy of Errors (event website)
Where: Griffith Park, by the Old Zoo
FYI: Sunday will be the last performance, so see it while you can! That means summers officially over 😦 _________________________________________________________________________
What: Paramount’s 100th Anniversary (event website)
Where: Hollywood Bowl, 2301 North Highland Ave, Los Angeles CA 90068
Cost: $3-$200 (get tickets here)
FYI: Take the bowl shuttle- way easier than parking and super cheap. Come early and enjoy a picnic before the sun goes down. _________________________________________________________________________
What: Gravid Water (event website)
Where: UCB LA, 5919 Franklin Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Cost: $5 (get tickets here)
FYI: Even if they sell out, you can get in a standby line, and probably get in. This is a great comedy show that combines improv with famous pieces of literature. It’s smart AND funny.
